Hello!  Welcome to my blog.

I live in Korea, and as a local in Korea, I would like to introduce some places to visit in Korea.

It's a new attempt for me, so it's exciting. I hope many people will see this post and have a pleasant trip.

This is the place I would like to introduce today! Seoul's Noryangjin Fish Market!  Have you heard of it?

Easy access to the subway station as well. There are two types of subway that can go to the market.
Line 1 and Line 9 ( 136 :  Line 1 ,  917 :  Line 9)

If you go out of exit 9, it is close to the market.

It is also accessible by car. Take advantage of the 30-minute free parking time benefit.

I didn't eat at the restaurant located in the market,

but packed it up and took it home. So it took less than 30 minutes

to pick and pack.

If you use a restaurant and it took more than 30 minutes after entering, ask the relevant store if they can give you a parking discount ticket.

With hundreds of stores, you may be very confuse.

Calling customer out loud here and there, if you are a foreigner,

you might be able to receive a guide in short English.

However, you need to be more careful when buying from this fish market.

Some bad shops might make you rip off.

Be sure to follow the three rules below.

1. Decide exactly what kind of fish you want before going to the market (fish species/size/price/market price, etc.)
If you don't make up your mind to go, you may end up buying fish you don't want. T.T
2. Pay close attention to the scale. Buy from a reputable store.
3. If possible, we recommend packaging rather than market restaurants.
In the case of market restaurants, an additional usage fee will be charged. It is a system in which you have to select a fish first, pay for it, and pay for the restaurant separately.

I'm planning to buy flatfish at Noryangjin Fish Market today.

It’s not wild-caught but farmed, and while it’s considered a more expensive fish in other countries, in Korea, it's affordable and a great choice to try something tasty.

I'd like to introduce one of my favorite stores (this is not an advertisement, just my personal experience).

The store is called Daeun Sanghoe (대운 상회), located on the second floor, at store number 2-18.

This store is run by a middle-ged couple, and we visit them often. I visited on August 2024.

At Noryangjin Fish Market, the vendors switch spots every four years through a random lottery system.

There are many different kinds of fish available. You can simply point to a picture or indicate with your finger how many people will be eating or which type of fish you want, and the owner will let you know the price.

Let’s start by trying to negotiate. While the price might be fixed, if you have an idea of the average market price, you can judge whether it's reasonable and then try to negotiate. Even if you’re not successful, it’s always good to have a conversation. It can make for an enjoyable shopping experience.  :)

If you purchased fish, the next option is two.

1)you can move to a connected restaurant where you can enjoy your meal. There is an additional plating fee (usually under $10 per person).

2) You can also take the sashimi to go and enjoy it at home. I recommend this option if you have vegetables, plates, and utensils ready, or if you plan to buy them nearby

I requested takeout, and they beautifully packed it for me in a disposable plate.

Though it wasn’t domestic salmon, they kindly offered a small portion of salmon sashimi as a complimentary tasting.

It was absolutely delicious!!!

I’ve shared my great experience visiting Noryangjin Fish Market.

If you enjoy sashimi,

I highly recommend visiting this large seafood market.

You’ll have the chance to experience so many different things!

If you enjoyed reading it, please sympathize  (below heart mark) and leave comments below!

It gives me a lot of strength!!!
I'll come back with more fun everyday stories next time. Bye ♬
